The Fundaci\u00f3n Baluarte<\/strong>, public institution of Navarra, Spain, in charge of the programming of the Palace of Congress and Auditorium of Navarra ‘Baluarte’, as well as the Orquesta Sinf\u00f3nica de Navarra (Navarre Symphony Orchestra), recently named Asier Polo as its Artist in Residence for the 2018\/2019 season<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Asier Polo will be the protagonist of five programs, which will be developed in seven concerts\u00a0<\/strong>throughout this season in several formats: recitals, chamber music concerts and performances together with the Navarra Symphony Orchestra<\/strong>, resident orchestra of the city of Pamplona main concert hall and one of the leading orchestras in Spain.<\/p>\n

For the occasion, the Fundaci\u00f3n Baluarte has commissioned a composition by Fernando Vel\u00e1zquez, specially written for Asier Polo<\/strong>. Likewise, the cellist will also hold another world premiere during his residency, by the composer from Zaragoza Jes\u00fas Torres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Three out of the six events of ‘Baluarte C\u00e1mara’<\/strong>, the annual chamber music cycle of the Foundation, will have Asier Polo as the leading figure of the program.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The audience of Navarra will have the chance to enjoy one of the masterworks of Johann Sebastian Bach, the whole set of the Suites for Cello Solo, in two dates<\/strong>: on Wednesday, November 7<\/a>, with the Suites No. 1, 4 and 5; and the following week, on Wednesday, November 14<\/a>, the Suites No. 3, 2 and 6.<\/p>\n

Later, on February 20, 2019<\/a>, Asier Polo will have his first world premiere of the season with ‘Transfiguraci\u00f3n’, a Concerto for cello, accordion and string orchestra by the composer Jes\u00fas Torres<\/b>. Asier Polo will share the stage with the accordionist I\u00f1aki Alberdi and the string group of the Navarra Symphony Orchestra. The concert will also include works by Bach, Gubaidulina and Piazzolla.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding his projects together with the Navarra Symphony Orchestra\u00a0<\/strong>as an Artist in Residence, Asier Polo will perform under the baton of Christoph K\u00f6nig the ‘Concerto for cello and orchestra’ by Edvard Elgar<\/strong>, a work he chose for his orchestral debut more than 25 years ago, and which, to this day, is still occupying a position of honor in his repertoire. As part of the symphony season and as usual in the Navarre main orchestra, the program will have two consecutive dates: December 20<\/a> and 21<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the second orchestral program of the season as an Artist in Residence stands out the world premiere of Fernando Vel\u00e1zquez’s ‘Concerto for Cello and Orchestra’<\/strong>, which will be led by the maestro Pablo Gonz\u00e1lez, also in a double program, on May 16<\/a> and 17<\/a>, 2019.<\/p>\n
